Cliffrose blooms in late spring, bedecking the cliffsides, mesatops, and arroyos of the stone desert with big, round heaps of yellow-white flowers. The shrubs, completely laden, stand starkly against rock and sand like candles against the night. Cliffrose (Purshia stansburyana) is a reminder of the unique ways that life persists on the Colorado Plateau — waiting when waiting is warranted, and then bursting to life when it’s time. We too are tenants of this arid place so we wanted to honor it by naming our backpack after this beautiful and place-specific relative of the rose.

  • Averaging around 2lbs, this pack is light & thru-hike-worthy.

  • With its double layer bottom, it’s durable enough to take the beatings dealt by the redwall limestone during a rugged thru of the Grand Canyon.

  • Hanging hipbelt and articulating shoulder strap design are ridiculously comfortable for long days in the saddle.

  • Tubular aluminum full box frame gives the Cliffrose incredible load-hauling capacity. At 50lbs, the frame isn’t even thinking about flexing.

  • Pack shape designed so it leans toward the body.

  • 3lb Evazote shoulder strap foam is comfy and long-lasting.

  • Dual density hip belt foam prevents collapse when carrying heavier loads.

  • Tall side pockets accommodate tents, 2L Platypuses, and more.

Stock version includes:

  • 2 roll top straps with gatekeepers

  • 1 40” over the top compression strap

Strap package version includes:

Sizing

Our packs are designed so the shoulder straps attach right at the top of the shoulders. It is not recommended to allow the harness to curve around the top of the shoulders.

Each size has about 1” of adjustability. The medium, for example, utilizes a 22” stay with the upper setting at 22” and the lower setting at 21”. Ben has a 19.5” torso and uses the lower setting on the medium up to about 25lbs. Over 30lbs he prefers the upper setting on the medium.

Reviews

Dude this has got to be my favorite pack I've ever used. I've probably gotten about 350+ miles on it at this point and it's holding up wonderfully - can barely tell that it's been used at all honestly, other than the fact that the hipbelt and shoulder straps are breaking in and fitting like a glove. It's just so easy to use and so comfortable.  Which points to what I think are some of the biggest strengths of the pack - the hipbelt, the articulating shoulder straps, and the shaping work y'all did on the pack body. When I clip the hipbelt on, it stays. Period. I haven't experienced any slipping, any sagging, any need for readjustment, nothing. The hipbelt's inner face material, the sturdier foam, the strapping, the hanging, all work together so well.  Far superior to many others I have used.  As for the shoulder straps, I haven't had a pack where the shoulder straps fit my traps so well.  I don't have a lot to say except that the articulation and the connection to the frame make load lifters feel obsolete - something I never thought I would get behind.  Super super comfortable, super easy.  And the shaping you did with the pack body is awesome.  I know so many pack makers tend to make the top the widest portion of the pack, which does make it easy to get stuff in and out of.  But dang, the way this bag distributes the load is pretty remarkable.  I get barely any backwards pull, it fits the contours of my back so well, and it drops the weight right into the hipbelt really effectively.  Because of all of those things, I feel very mobile and free while wearing it. So often packs can feel like they're blocks sitting on top of your back, this feels like an extension. I also really like the side pockets.  Keeps things nice and tidy, good weight distribution, fits so much stuff.  I have thought about secondary access points to these pockets, but not out of any need just out of curiosity.” — Tom
